Abstract


Boarding houses are one of the temporary housing options forstudents who are studying outside the region. The environment inwhich the boarding house affects student activity, productivity, andachievement. The boarding environment includes room facilities,shared facilities, and other factors (accessibility and socialenvironment). This study aims to determine students' perceptions ofideal costs and prices of the facilities offered. This study used aquantitative descriptive approach. The population of this study wasstudents of FISH Unesa, while the sample was taken from 10 ]% ofthe total population. The sampling technique used is purposiverandom sampling. This research instrument is a questionnaire thatcovers aspects of room facilities, shared facilities, environment, andaccessibility as well as interview guidelines. In general, Studentsprefer to live in boarding houses near campus. The closer the betterbecause students consider the efficiency of travel time. Sometimeschoosing close because they do not have their vehicle in Surabaya.Most also still cling to the teachings of Islam and Javanese culturewhere students are more comfortable living in same-sex boardinghouses. Because it is unethical to live together with the opposite sexwho is not family. For preferences other than near campus, what istaken into consideration is the proximity of places to eat. Becausemost of the boarding house do not have a kitchen.
