During the long school break between academic years, many students, includingstudents from Islamic boarding schools (santri), spend their time playing withsmartphones. They utilize their school holiday break by engaging in social mediaand online gaming. The average duration of smartphone usage during this periodis approximately 5 (five) to 10 (ten) hours per day. Most parents of the studentscannot deter their children from this holiday activity, as it is considered accepta-ble. This acceptance is due to the fact that the students are prohibited from usingsmartphones while at the Islamic boarding school. However, excessive and inap-propriate smartphone usage can have negative effects on their behavior in theirsurrounding environment. This community engagement method employs out-reach as its approach. The results of this community engagement activity includethe students gaining a better understanding of the positive and negative impactsof excessive smartphone usage. Furthermore, the students are now capable ofselecting content and applications that are suitable for their learning needs whileat home.
