Abstract

In September 2022, there was a mutilation case of four civilians in Papua Regency which was allegedly carried out by members of the the Republic of Indonesia army. This mutilation case attract public attention, because this case was not only reported by the media in Indonesia, but also by foreign media. The media as an agent of social construction has a dual role. On the one hand, it acts as a conduit for the political aspirations of the public. Departing from these problems, by using qualitative methods as well as Peter L. Berger's social construction theory and Pierre Bourdiue's theory of symbolic violence, this study will look at the online media frame in Indonesia and compare it with news abroad, namely media from United State and United Kingdom. This research choose three different online media which first release this case news. In addition, this research will also look at whether there is media bias in framing news from the three online media. The assumption of this research is there are different news framing between online media in Indonesia and foreign media such as United State and United Kingdom. This is because there is media alignment when framing the news, especially regarding the mutilation of four civilians in Papua Regency which was carried out by members of the Republic of Indonesia army.
